The City
Budapest is famous for its ruin bars located mainly in District VII. (known as the ’Party District’ or ’Ruin Bar District’). This district in Budapest was full of crumbling, abandoned buildings in the early 2000s. About 15 years ago they started to open bars in these buildings with the idea of recycling furniture. This meant not buying new ones, but reusing the ones people already had. This is why the style of ruin bars might seem so random to foreigners (and to locals as well). All the furniture is different and so is the decoration. Because of this new trend, locals have opened more and more ruin bars in the past few years and this is exactly why they call Budapest ’The City of Ruin Bars’.
The Activity
