There are castles and churches surrounding the city, along with many remnants left over from the 2nd World War. The city has a real historic feel and there is a Dragon of Wawel Legend, set in the Wawel Castle in Krakow. Apparently, a long time ago, there lived a dragon in a den at the foot of Wawel Hill who terrorised the locals. Day after day, the dragon made himself more at home and the locals became scared to live there. Knights tried in vain to defeat the dragon, but nobody could. King Krak decided to offer his daughter's hand in marriage to anyone who could kill it. A young shoemaker came into the town and offered to kill the dragon, he just needed lambskin, sulphur and mustard seed. The King agreed and the boy set to work, sewing the seeds and sulphur into the lambskin. The next day, the dragon woke up in search of food and saw the lambskin. He immediately gobbled up the lambskin, suddenly became terribly thirsty and ran to the River Wistula to take a drink. He was so thirsty, he drank the entire river and then exploded! Never to be seen again. Something to think about boys - be wary of drinking too much at your Bachelor Party, you don't want to explode before your wedding day!
